The Eastern Connecticut State University men's club ice hockey team made sure their season didn't end without a good effort. Down two goals to Norwich University in the regional tournament semifinals, the team mounted a comeback and forced the game to overtime. Although Eastern lost the game, the Warriors showed the same fight that has made them a championship contender year in and year out. Ending the year at 16-6-1, the team posted the sixth-best winning percentage out of 62 teams in the northeast conference of the American College Hockey Association.

Each year during New Student Orientation, students are provided an opportunity to begin their civic journey by volunteering during our annual Day of Service. This opportunity allows students to serve others while demonstrating learning, connection, and caring involvement in the surrounding community. The Class of 2021 teamed up with faculty and staff members, Interim President Elizabeth Meade, and the Friends of the Allentown Parks for the college's Day of Service on Saturday, August 26, 2017. The group cleaned up the grounds between Fountain Park and Valania Park in Allentown. Later in the day the group walked to Zion's Reformed United Church of Christ at 620 Hamilton Street, where Cedar Crest College held its first classes on September 5, 1867, for a photo.
Eastern Connecticut State University English enthusiasts gathered on Dec. 6 for English Night, an event that showcases student excellence in the English Department. A talented cast of Eastern Connecticut State University students, alumni, faculty and staff recently performed in "Amahl and the Night Visitors" on Dec. 2 to celebrate the holiday season. Composed by Gian Carlo Menotti in 1951, the opera tells the story of the Magi from the point of view of a young disabled boy named Amahl and his widowed mother.

The Department of Psychological Science at Eastern Connecticut State University held its 2017 Summer Research Institute on May 18-24 on the Eastern campus. This year's institute involved 10 undergraduate students and focused on the various factors that influence healthy eating. The institute was led by professors Jenna Scisco and Joseph Dracobly.
Eleven graduating seniors from Eastern Connecticut State University were recognized at the Honors Program Reception at the conclusion of the 2016-17 academic year. The competitive Honors Program contains some of the university's highest-achieving students, who must undergo a rigorous academic schedule and maintain a high GPA in order to remain in the benefit-rich program.

A sports talk show on student-run Ithaca College Television (ICTV) has won a prestigious College Television Award from the Television Academy Foundation. "Hold That Thought" took first place in the unscripted series category. Producers Jenna Harner, Jonah Restuccio and Amy Stiefel, and ICTV Sports Director Mike Kaminskas, each received awards for their work on the show.
